Teacher Training FAQ's
Why Teacher Training?
If you want to deepen your practice, then teacher training will accomplish you that. Every other weekend we'll dive into the depths of the poses, the philosophy and all that is internal.
Teacher training is a way to go beyond the public yoga class, to get individual attention and to approach yoga from all sides - intellectually, physically, through the breath and through things you never knew of.
Why at Yoga Culture?
If you like vinyasa yoga with Iyengar alignment and you like and our warm and friendly approach, then this just might be the place for you.
What certification do I get for completing this training?
Yoga Alliance is the certifying body for yoga teachers. Completion of this training will allow you to apply for a 200-hour RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher) certification with Yoga Alliance.
How do I know if I’m ready for teacher training?
There is no exact answer to this question. If you want to deepen your practice, you will do that during the training, no matter how long you’ve been practicing.
What if I'm injured, pregnant or have a special condition?
Teacher Training doesn't require Olympic-level fitness. It does require that you commit yourself and honor your body, through modifications, in all the practices. We have had pregnancies, dislocated shoulders and medical conditions in our Teacher Training. If you think "advanced" means jumping to handstands in Sun Salutations, you're incorrect. An advanced yogi is astute in her body, observes her limits, pushes herself when needed and lays off when needed. If you're paying attention to a special condition, then you're right on. That's what yoga is all about. Speak to Jenny or Wendy about the specifics of your condition, but don't let a pulled hamstring keep you from this wonderful experience. Unless you're getting younger, you'll continue to deal with ailments as the years pass. A sore shoulder this year, a sprained ankle next. That's one of the reasons there's no time like the present!
Do I need to purchase the required reading books or are they part of the training fee?
You need to purchase the books on your own. Amazon carries all of them.
What if I need to miss a day?
You must speak to Jenny or Allison if you have a conflict. Please do your very best to schedule everything around your training.
Are the required weekly classes included in my tuition?
What if I’m on SuperPass (monthly unlimited yoga) or a class pass at Yoga Culture?
Your pass will be put on hold for the duration of the training. You are required to attend class as part of the training - that is included in your teacher training fee.
Is this going to be scary?
No. Okay, maybe a little nerve-inducing at times, but that’s good to remind you that you’re alive. You will have a mentor and tons of support from your Culture Buddy (partner in the training) and all your Teacher Training colleagues.
Do you offer scholarships?
We do not offer scholarships. We offer two payment plans, though. See our Teacher Training page for info on that.
Besides attending the weekend sessions, what are the other time requirements?
Mentor Meetings: These will be scheduled during the week in between your training weekends.
Classes: You must attend at least 3 classes per week during your training - one Basics, one Level 1 and one Level 2 or 3.
Homework: There will be assignments and readings from your handouts and textbooks.
